A Professional Music Studio
Welcome to Keyan Music Studio, a private music studio in Newmarket, conveniently located near Upper Canada Mall. Founded and directed by Dr. Keyan Emami, the studio provides personalized instruction in piano, music theory, and composition for students of all levels. Lessons are structured to support each student's development, musical goals, and long-term growth.
Our Approach
At Keyan Music Studio, meaningful musical education goes beyond learning pieces. Through individualized instruction and expert guidance, students develop a strong foundation in technique, musicianship, theory, and creativity.
Lessons are structured and purposeful while remaining responsive to each student's needs and progress. Students may pursue a range of goals, from building a strong foundation and preparing for RCM examinations to developing performance skills, preparing for competitions and auditions, or exploring composition.
About the Founder

Dr. Keyan Emami is a JUNO-nominated composer, pianist, RCM Examiner, and experienced music educator with more than 25 years of teaching experience. He specializes in piano, music theory, harmony, solfège, and composition, working with students of all levels.
As an RCM Examiner with the Royal Conservatory College of Examiners and an RCM Certified Teacher, Dr. Emami is actively involved with professional organizations, including the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association and the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association.
In addition to his private teaching practice, Dr. Emami has taught piano, music theory, composition, sight singing, ear training, history, harmony, and counterpoint at institutions including the University of Toronto, Tehran University of Art, Azad University, and the Tehran Conservatory of Music. His teaching follows a structured, step-by-step approach while adapting to each student's development and goals.
Dr. Emami's compositions explore memory, transformation, and cultural synthesis, drawing inspiration from Persian literature and diverse musical traditions. His contemporary musical language combines distinctive textures with expressive depth. His works have been performed by orchestras, ensembles, and musicians internationally and presented at venues including the Canadian Opera Company – Four Seasons Centre, Toronto Centre for the Arts, the Aga Khan Museum, and Roy Thomson Hall.
Dr. Emami earned his Doctor of Music from the University of Toronto in 2020, following a B.Eng. in Polymer Engineering and an M.Mus. in Music Composition with distinction. He received the Best Master’s Thesis Prize for his work Symphony in Three Movements. His principal teachers and mentors have included Christos Hatzis, Alexander Rapoport, Norbert Palej, Ahmad Pejman, Sharif Lotfi, and Hossein Dehlavi.
As the founder and academic director of Keyan Music Studio, Dr. Emami offers private piano, composition, and theory lessons at his professional studio in Newmarket, Ontario, as well as online via video conferencing. His teaching emphasizes strong musical foundations, individualized guidance, and long-term development.
